We love and fear the non-human animal in equal measure, just as we love and fear the uncontrollable animal of our own bodies. It’s abject, sticky, large, furry, sharp, kinky, and soft.
ANIMA/ is a curatorial project founded and headed by Maia Shelley Rakovic.
ANIMA/ is a pop-up exhibition platform dedicated to bringing together emerging artists whose work investigates a tangled relationship with animality – the creatures outwith, within, and beside. Rather than treating the animal as subject, this exhibition considers animality as a method: a way of thinking through the body, instinct, appetite, sexuality, transformation, and the limits of what it means to be human.
These exhibitions are love letters to the creatural method. Through multi- and inter- disciplinary works, we invite you to enter a space of freedom and discomfort, where the human form is
